A COVENTRY landlord has been given a formal caution for attempting to illegally evict three of his tenants.
The landlord posted letters to the tenants in January, instructing them to leave in just seven days.
Coventry city council’s landlord and tenant liaison officer contacted the landlord and stopped the evictions after being informed of the situation.
The landlord admitted in interview he knew the correct procedure and had not followed it.
Formal cautions can be handed out if people admit to wrongdoing at an early stage and accept responsibility for their offences.
These cautions can only be offered if there is enough evidence to gain a prosecution and prevent landlords from obtaining various licenses in Coventry, including the ability to manage Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO).
The tenants also have the option of now bringing a civil action.
