Four arrested and large amount of drugs recovered as police raid homes in Coventry

FOUR people were arrested and a large amount of drugs were seized when police raided properties in Coventry.

Officers swooped at the address in Westminster Road on Wednesday.

When they arrived, they found four people inside as well as as the suspected class A drugs, scales, blades for cutting drugs and chemicals for production.

They also found a number of mobile phones suspected of being linked to drug dealing.

A 44-year-old man, a 41-year-old man, a 40 year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were all arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs. All four have been bailed while the police’s investigation continues.

Second property raided

Elsewhere in Coventry, officers carried out an arrest warrant at an address in Northumberland Road.

Although no-one was home, when officers gained entry to the property they discovered a cannabis grow upstairs with around 100 plants.

The team worked with colleagues from Western Power to make the property safe, as there was an extensive electricity bypass inside which was a serious fire hazard.

Enquiries are now ongoing to find the owner of the property and make repairs to the house, which had been damaged during the process of converting it into a cannabis farm.

Acting on intelligence

Police said the warrants were carried out following community concerns over anti-social behaviour and cuckooing – the practice of vulnerable people being exploited by criminals.

Police say they regularly carry out drug warrants across Coventry, but do rely on information from the public to help officers build a picture of where crime is happening.

Anyone who sees anything suspicious where they live should report it by calling 101, via Live Chat at westmidlands.police.uk or by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
