Free drop-in social prescribing event coming to Coventry Transport Museum tomorrow

Coventry Editorial 18th May, 2022   0

A FREE drop-in social prescribing event showcasing a range of health and wellbeing activities in Coventry and Warwickshire will be at Coventry Transport Museum tomorrow.

The event was organised by Culture Coventry and will take place between 10am and 3pm, featuring up to 35 stalls.

People will be able to learn more about arts, culture, sports and exercise activities and there will also be stalls promoting wildlife, support, and crisis services.

Twelve stalls will offer information and taster sessions such as health checks, craft-making, conversation exercises, and practicing gratitude and mindfulness.

The National Academy for Social Prescribing (NASP) will be in attendance to talk about what prescribing means to people in Coventry.

Social Prescribing Link Workers prescribe sports and social activities to patients and are now embedded into NHS and health care settings across the country.

The event will be taking place on the fourth annual UK Social Prescribing Link Worker Day, which celebrates and raises awareness for the role link workers are playing in transforming healthcare.

Event organiser Rachel Marsden, who is a community connector for Culture Coventry, said: “Social prescribing is about helping patients and clients to find ways to improve their health, wellbeing and social welfare by linking them to local services and organisations.

“The event is a great opportunity for people find out more about social prescribing and the referral process whilst giving all the fantastic social prescribing activity in the area a platform.”
