Free fun for all the family at Coventry's Go Parks Fest this weekend

Coventry Editorial 18th Aug, 2023   0

A FREE family fun day will take place in Coventry from 12pm to 3pm tomorrow (Saturday, August 19).

The Go Parks Fest 2023 at Gosford Green Park has been organised by the Coventry Boys and Girls Club and its charitable partners.

The club will showcase the progress made by members of its ‘Roots n Hoops’ with plenty of basketball and multi-sports activities, music, food, and community celebrations.

The ‘Roots n Hoops’ programme was brought to Coventry Boys and Girls Club, one of Coventry’s oldest youth charities, by Reuben Cotrell who is director of the events management and A&R company ‘Fyah Kamp’.

Along with local partners including Go Parks, Sport England, Positive Youth Foundation, Coventry City Council and The Peace Orchard, this free event will feature basketball demonstrations and a chance to learn more about the many sporting activities offered by Coventry Boys and Girls Club.

Roots n Hoops

‘Roots n Hoops’ was developed to provide a safe and empowering space for young people, with professional mentors on-hand to help each individual to develop their athletic skills while boosting their levels of self-confidence and ambition too. The free event will offer a chance for the community to see just how valuable the scheme has been to those who took part in it.

Those who go along can expect a vibrant atmosphere where families can get involved in various sports including basketball, football, and boxing training, as well as enjoying some music and great food.

The ‘Roots n Hoops’ programme will also give city residents the chance to find out how they can get more involved with Coventry Boys and Girls Club – a charity which offers a variety of activities such as youth sessions, music production, mentorship, and more from its three-floor hub on Whitefriars Street.

In addition to all the fun, those who attend ‘Go Parks Fest’ can talk to the CBGC team about how they may be able to get involved in future programs or join CBGC as a youth member.

Reuben Cotterell said: “We believe in the potential of our young people and their ability to excel both in sports and the arts.

“Roots n Hoops aims to provide a platform where they can explore their passions, hone their skills, and grow in a positive environment.”

This free event takes place between 12pm and 3pm at Gosford Green Park on August 19 – no tickets are needed, people can just turn up.
