SOLIHULL Council has today thanked Solihull College via Twitter for donating a supply of protective kit to tackle coronavirus for frontline social care workers.
Nationally across the UK medical professionals have expressed concern about the widespread lack of personal protective equipment (PPE) and hand sanitiser.
This morning Solihull Council issued the following tweet:
“We would like to start this Monday off by saying a HUGE thank you to @SolihullCollege for kindly donating supplies of #PPE so that our frontline care workers can continue to provide care safely #gloves #aprons #workingtogether #StayHomeSaveLives.”
Yesterday Robert Jenrick, the communities secretary, said 170 million masks, 42.8 million gloves, 13.7 million aprons, 182,000 gowns, 2.3 million pairs of eye protectors and nearly 10 million items of cleaning equipment were being delivered to 58,000 NHS Trusts and healthcare facilities.
A national response team is being set up to deliver millions of face masks, gloves and gowns to frontline NHS staff including hospitals, care homes, GP surgeries, and pharmacies, supported by the armed forces and other emergency services.
The death of Britain’s first senior doctors has intensified the calls for action. Ear, nose and throat surgeon Amged El-Hawrani, 55, who worked on the frontline at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton, died on Saturday at Leicester Royal Infirmary, while London-based surgeon, Adil El Tayar, 63, an organ transplant specialist, died on Wednesday at West Middlesex University Hospital. Both doctors had contracted Covid-19.
