POLICE have today announced more arrests in connection with the fatal stabbing of Fidel Glasgow outside a Coventry city centre nightclub.

They carried out five further dawn raids in the city this morning (Wednesday October 2) as part of the ongoing investigation.

Fidel, grandson of The Specials legend Neville Staple, was stabbed during disorder near to Club M in the early hours of September 1 last year. The 21-year-old died just hours later in hospital.

Four men, aged 20 to 22, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and violent disorder and will be questioned today, the police announced. Two of them were also arrested on suspicion of drugs offences.

Another two men, aged 20 and 22 from Coventry, have been arrested for the same offences after handing themselves into police this morning following yesterday’s warrants, West MIdlands Police added.

Three men, aged 19 – 21,  arrested yesterday from Coventry and Nuneaton, have been questioned and released on police bail.

Detective Inspector Michelle Allen, from the force’s homicide unit, said: “We are determined to bring Fidel’s killer to justice and I hope our action over the last two days demonstrates this commitment.”

West Midlands Police added today: “Violent crime is a priority for West Midlands Police and extra funding granted by the Home Office in May has been used to set up Project Guardian which is already seeing hundreds of extra police hours dedicated to reducing violence, and also focusing on youth violence prevention and enforcement.

“Earlier this year the Knife Angel commanded a powerful presence in Coventry city centre with its emotive visualisation of the devastating impact knife crime has on young lives, families and communities and last month, on the anniversary of his death,

“Fidel’s family organised ‘Fidel’s Walk for Peace and Disclosure’, where friends and family walked from Club M to Coventry Cathedral and held a special gathering in remembrance of their loved one.”
