Getting suited and booted for annual Meriden Santa Fun Run

Coventry Editorial 4th Dec, 2022   0

RESIDENTS will be ho-ho-hoping to have plenty of festive fun while fund-raising for local causes at Meriden Rotary’s 11th annual Santa Fun Run.

The 5km long event will be following a route at Packington Hall and will be returning on December 11 after the pandemic led to the last two being held virtually.

The proceeds from this year’s event will be going to charities including Marie Curie, which offers care and support for those with terminal illness.

Everyone who completes the course will receive a medal.

Rotarian Tony Hill, who organised the Run, said: “We have always held it at Meriden Hall and the 5km route has been around the village.

“Increasingly the need to arrange road closures, managing traffic has become very onerous and we were increasingly concerned about safety.

“This year we have been able to obtain permission to hold the event at Packington Hall which is a beautiful setting for the event, only made possible by the enthusiastic support of Lady Georgie Guernsey.”

The run will get under way at 11am with registration costing £12 for adults and £6 for under 16s with everyone then given a Santa suit and water bottle.

Visit meriden-santa-fun-run.org.uk for more information.

Then between December 5 and 18, the Meriden Rotary Club members will be taking out their Santa sleigh across the area.

The man in the big red suit will head to Millison’s Wood on December 5, other areas of Meriden on December 7 and 8 and Hampton-In-Arden Lower from December 12.

Residents of Kingshust will be hearing sleigh bells coming down the street on December 14 and 15, and the journey will end on December 16 in Hampton-in-Arden upper.

And there will be collections at Melbick’s Garden centre on December 9, Packington Hall Santa Fun Run on December 11, Morrison’s in Sheldon on December 13 and 14 and at Morrison’s in Castle Bromwich on December 18.

The cash raised from these collections will go to DEBRA UK, the rotary president’s charity.
