Give the gift of theatre this Christmas

Coventry Editorial 17th Nov, 2015 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016   0

THE BELGRADE Theatre are calling on Coventrians to give the gift of theatre to needy local families this Christmas.

As part of its Making Memories campaign, the Belgrade is asking people to dig deep to help raise £5,000 to give 400 families facing financial hardship free tickets to this year’s pantomime – Beauty and the Beast.

An £8 donation will provide one child with a ticket to the patomime, £49 will mean a whole family can attend, while an £82 donation would pay for 10 tickets to the theatre.

Urging people to back the campaign, Joanna Reid, executive director of Belgrade, said: “There is nothing like the communal experience of live theatre to lift the spirits and make people feel they are having a special time.

“Too many people in Coventry and Warwickshire will be facing financial hardship this Christmas, when not being able to take part or not being able to give their children any kind of treat during the Festive time increases their sense of isolation.

“Providing free tickets to people who are struggling financially is a great way for us all to let people know that they are not alone at Christmas.”

David Jane, the Belgrade’s Development Director added: “Our Making Memories campaign builds upon our activities from last year, to ensure that, whilst we can’t make people’s problems go away, we can help them to experience the joy, excitement and escapism that theatre can bring.”

Family tickets are priced from £36 to £66 and cheaper tickets can be purchased online at www.belgrade.co.uk.
