JUST under 30,000 entries were received as part of Coventry four-week Go Parks Active Schools Challenge in lockdown – with 13 winning schools announced.
Across the city 41 parks hosted a QR code banner or poster for residents to enter and vote allowing the challenge to provide a safe, yet fun way for families to exercise while adhering to local Covid guidelines.
More than 100 schools took part in the challenge earning 384,905 points with all prizes will go towards maintaining the mental and physical wellbeing of pupils. An additional prize for the most active and encouraging social media presence was also awarded to St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School in Potter’s Green.
Coun Kamran Caan, cabinet member for public health and sport, said: “The Go Parks: Active Schools Challenge has been a massive success. Almost 29,000 entries demonstrates the enthusiasm Coventry residents had for the challenge.
“It really has been amazing to see so many children of all fitness levels and abilities in the city get so excited about the challenge, supporting their school and of course being able to get active safely during this difficult time.
“I would like to congratulate all of the winning schools on their fantastic efforts and managing to hold their positions in the leaderboards to the end.”
The free-to-enter challenge was in partnership with Coventry East and West School Games organisers who host sport and physical activity competitions across Coventry’s schools.
Flash challenges for extra points included Triple Point Tuesday and Sky Blues Saturday which saw Coventry City Football Club award two children winning a future visit to their school from one of the team’s players.
