Golden Putter to stay at Memorial Park till late 2024

Coventry Editorial 3rd Aug, 2023   0

THE 36hole mini-golf course in Coventry’s War Memorial Park, which was set up during the School Easter holidays, will remain in the park till towards the end of 2024.

This summer it will also be joined by a new land train offering short trips for children and adults.

The portable temporary venue, called Golden Putter, was erected in the park in March this year, and will stay open following a successful trial period.

Emma Cosgrove, said: “The trial period has worked really well. It is a great addition to the park and I think many park visitors will be pleased that it is set to remain till September 2024.

“It’s an accessible course and the water features and natural planting all help with the way it looks. For an event space that is portable it is impressive.”

A new land train is also being added to the park’s attractions just for the summer holidays. The War Memorial Express Land Train offers people a whistle-stop tour of the park.

Emma added: “We wanted to test out the portable golf course and at the time we said if it is a success, it will remain a feature of the park till after the school holidays.”

The City Council are working with contractors Greenspace Leisure, which has set up similar temporary venues in large parks in the Midlands and elsewhere.

Matt Green, Greenspace Leisure said “We’ve been delighted by the response from the people of Coventry to our pop-up Golden Putter mini golf course and are excited to be continuing to provide that at War Memorial Park for 2024.

“We’re also very hopeful that the land train will prove equally popular at the park during the school summer holidays.”

Coun Abdul Khan, Deputy Council Leader at Coventry City Council, said: “In Coventry we are very proud of our parks and green spaces. These new attractions are a great addition to the many free activities that visitors can enjoy at both The Memorial Park and Coombe Abbey Park and at our many other fabulous parks.”

The cost to try a round of mini-golf ranges from £7.50 depending on ticket class up to £43.50 for a family pass. Tickets for the land Train are £2.50pp for children and £3.00pp for adults.
