Greens announce candidates for Coventry City Council elections

COVENTRY’S Green Party has announced 16 candidates will be standing in this year’s city council elections.

The Greens, who formed in the city 50 years ago, initially under the People’s Party title, enjoyed their best-ever performance at last year’s elections, with Stephen Gray becoming the party’s first Coventry councillor.

Niall Webb will once again be the Green Party candidate for Bablake having received over 250 votes in the 2021 and 2022 elections.

Bruce Tetlow, who was born in Canada but moved to Coventry almost 20 years ago, will be standing as the candidate for Cheylesmore, while local church member John Finlayson will be on the ballot in Earlsdon.

Cathy Wattebot will be standing in Henley for the third successive election, while Esther Reeves, who received 400 votes in the Lower Stoke ward in the 2022 local election, is the candidate for Holbrook.

Danny Foulstone will be standing in Longford having previously been a candidate in Binley and Willenhall in past elections.




Secondary school teacher Tom Jewell and keen litter picker Julie Spriddle will be the candidates for Lower Stoke and Radford.

Chrissie Brown will be standing in St Michael’s having previously stood in both Binley and Willenhall and Wyken and David Priestley, who has lived in Coventry for over 25 years, will be the candidate in Sherbourne.


Laura Vesty will contest the seat in Upper Stoke, where she has lived since 2000 having moved to Coventry for university.

Becky Finlayson, who stood as the Green Party’s Parliamentary candidate in 2019, will stand in Wainbody and Jess Marshall will once again be the Greens’ candidate in Westwood.

Anne Patterson, who has lived in Whoberley for more than 30 years, is once again bidding to be the ward’s representative on the city council.

And Lesley Sim will stand in Woodlands ward for the third time, with Russell Berry, who works for Coventry City Council libraries, once again standing for Wyken.
