EMERGENCY services were called to a bowling alley where a gunman allegedly took hostages.
Firefighters, paramedics, the air ambulance and specialist police including negotiators and firearms officers were called to the MFA Bowling St David’s Way in Nuneaton at around 2.30pm on Sunday (October 22).
People at the bowling alley and neighbouring businesses were evacuated while drivers were stopped from entering or leaving the park – which also includes a cinema, gym and several restaurants.
No one was injured.
David, Clarke, age 53 of Ryde Avenue in Nuneaton has been charged with two counts of false imprisonment, one count of criminal damage, two counts of possession of a bladed article, one count of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and two counts of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence.
He has been remanded in custody to appear at court on Tuesday (October 24).
Warwickshire Police Chf Supt Alex Franklin-Smith said: “We would like to thank local people for their patience and cooperation while officers dealt with this incident. We are pleased that we were able to bring this incident to a peaceful resolution and that there were no injuries.
“I would like to reassure the community that the incident is unconnected to any terrorist activity.”
