Guns, drugs and cash seized in Coventry and wider region

Coventry Editorial 5th Dec, 2022   0

WEST Midlands Police has seized four guns and nearly £1million in cash and drugs as part of a bid to tackle organised crime in Coventry and the wider region.

Officers raided an industrial unit in Coventry, where they found a Scorpion machine gun and two shotguns stuffed in bags that were hidden in walls.

And in an unrelated series of raids across Coventry and Warwickshire on the same day, police recovered 11.5kg of cocaine, amphetamines and cannabis.

A drugs press, mixing agents and a blank firing gun converted into a live firearm were also recovered.

Around £420,000 in cash was seized, with the drugs having an estimated street value of £500,000.

Five people were arrested in Friday’s raid.

Three people were arrested and charged, and two more were arrested and then released pending investigation.

The investigation into the guns found in the wall continues.

Cash recovered as part of the series of raids

A large amount of coke was recovered as part of the operation. s

Ch Insp Dave Amos, of West Midlands Police, said: “These are some fantastic recoveries of drugs and weapons that would undoubtedly have been used to spread fear, misery and violence on the streets of the West Midlands.

“We won’t stop in our pursuit of those who deal drugs and trade in firearms. They represent a serious threat and we will be relentless in our efforts to take them off the streets.

“It’s only thanks to information we gather from the community that we are able to tackle this threat.”
