A CITY gym helped finish off a marathon bike challenge for charity.

The Spirit Health Club at the Holiday Inn on Hinckley Road was the last of 30 of the chain’s gyms nationwide to cycle for 24 hours straight, finishing the challenge last Thursday.

Staff and members cycled more than 1,000km – a bigger distance than Land’s End to John O’Groats – in their day.

Chris Shorey said: “We try and do a challenge every year and they’re normally quite big.

“Every club took a day from midday to midday and we have 30 clubs.

“We tried to get the members involved as much as possible to add the fitness element to it and we had some doing 90 minutes to two hours at a time.

“We had loads of different age ranges including a little child who could barely reach the pedals!”
