Hardship fund opened for residents in financial trouble, says Coventry council

COVENTRY residents who are struggling to meet their council tax bill in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic can now apply to a hardship fund.

The fund has been set up by Coventry City Council, which said those people facing financial troubles should contact the Council Tax Team to discuss their payment arrangements.

A spokesman for the council said: “Anyone who is finding it difficult to pay should contact the Council Tax Team to discuss alternative payment arrangements.

“That could include delaying payments for a further two months, so annual bills would run from June to March, rather than April to January as normal.

“If you have been affected by coronavirus financially, call 024 7683 1111, or email [email protected], putting ‘covid-19’ in the subject box so we can give your email priority.

“You can also contact us for advice and support if your income has been affected by coronavirus at [email protected], by calling 024 7683 1800, or visiting the Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support page on our website.

“And to find out about support grants or crisis awards, email [email protected], call 024 7683 3773, or visit the Community Support Grants Page on our website.”

Rates have increased by 3.9 per cent for the new tax year, which started this month (April 1).
