Have your say on new ward boundaries as Coventry’s political map is redrawn

COVENTRIANS are being urged to have their say on new ward boundaries which will redraw the political map of Coventry city council.

The Local Government Boundary Commission, the independent body that draws ward boundaries, is reviewing the city council to ensure councillors represent around the same number of electors.

The commission, which has decided the number of city councillors should remain at 54, want people’s views on their local area.

It is most interested in knowing which communities should be part of the same ward by gaining information on facilities people share, such as parks, leisure centres or schools.

People can also give these views on the common issues neighbouring communities face, such as heavy traffic.

Views for new boundaries are open for consultation until July 31.

These views will be used to help draw proposals for new ward boundaries, after which there will be another round of consultation.

Prof Colin Mellors, Chair of the Commission, said: “We want people in Coventry to help us.

“We want our proposals for new electoral arrangements to reflect communities.

“We also want them to be easy to understand and convenient for local people.

“Residents and local organisations can help us understand community ties and identities at this early stage of the process.”
