A MAN has appeared in court after an attempted bank robbery where he pretended to have a gun in his coat pocket.

Stephen Cheshire, 62 of Kingswood Road, Nuneaton, has been charged with attempted robbery.

He appeared in Coventry Magistrates Court on Friday for his first hearing.

The incident happened around 3pm on Wednesday when a man allegedly entered a bank on Bridge Street in Nuneaton and demanded cash while reportedly pretending that he had a gun in his coat pocket.

The man was challenged by a member of bank staff, at which point he removed his hand from his pocket and remained in the branch until police arrived to arrest him.
