Heartfelt service at Coventry Cathedral to mark baby loss awareness week

A HEARTFELT service marking baby loss awareness week will be taking place at Coventry Cathedral next Sunday (October 15).

The event is open to all who have lost a young child and will get under way at 2pm.

It is dedicated to anyone who has been affected by pregnancy loss or losing a baby.

It will include readings, music, and short talks, while candles will be lit by those attending in memory of their little ones.

After the 45-minute service, people will get the chance to draw chalk hearts on the floor of the Cathedral Ruins.

The Vice Lord-Lieutenant of the West Midlands, Louise Bennett, will also be joining the event.

The service will focus on the often hidden grief experienced by bereaved grandparents.

Geoff Heaps and Steve Jolliffe, two bereaved grandfathers, will share their experiences, along with a reading by Veronica Pope, who lost her grandchild.

Mr Jolliffe said: “The grief suffered by grandparents when a child dies is complex and we want to offer hope to those who are early on in this journey, that you can learn to enjoy and embrace life again and live with your grief.”

A spokesperson for the event added: “We hope our beautiful and uplifting service will help those who have been affected feel more connected and less alone.

“We want to support families to help break the silence and talk openly about baby loss.”
