HEARTLESS criminals have caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to a charity shop in Coventry.
The Sense charity shop in Willenhall is calling for urgent support from the community after criminals broke in – the second time it has happened this year.
Although no stock was taken, the store needed significant repairs and lost two vital days of trading.
The Sense shop raises funds to support disabled children and adults with complex needs. The charity provides expert support including education, play schemes and specialist holidays.
The damage was discovered by a member of staff early in the morning of Wednesday August 27.
Staff are appealing for members of the local community to support the shop by donating money and unwanted items, or by volunteering their time.
Sense Area Manager Simone Tiano said: “We were of course shocked and upset to find out that our charity shop in Willenhall had been targeted by criminals who have caused significant damage. This is even harder for our staff as it’s the second time it has happened this year.
“However, we know that whoever did this is not representative of the people of Willenhall, who are lovely. We have received so much support for our shop and our mission that everyone should be able to take part in life, no matter their disability.
“If anyone in Willenhall is able to support us at this time, whether by signing up to volunteer or donating money or items to the store, it is really needed and would mean a lot to us. Even just popping in and offering some words of support would have a great impact on staff morale.”
Call 024 7630 5718 to volunteer at the shop. To donate goods or browse for items, visit the shop at Unit 9, 90 Remembrance Road, CV3 3DP. The shop is open 9am-5pm, Mondays to Saturdays.
