'Heatwave' set to continue in Coventry and Warwickshire

Coventry Editorial 19th Jun, 2017   0

SUNSEEKERS are set to continue to enjoy soaring temperatures in Coventry and Warwickshire.

The mecury topped 30 degrees in the weekend sun, and similar temperatures are expected in the coming days.

There is a possibility of a storm as the humid weather breaks down, possibly tomorrow, only for heat to continue.

‘Heatwave conditions’ were predicted by the Met Office.

It warns the high temperatures could have a ‘significant’ effect on health.

People are being urged to be vigilant and be on the look out for the vulnerable.

Healthcare providers across the region have come together to urge people to look out for those who could be affected by the heat – such as the elderly, seriously ill, those with existing medical conditions and the very young.

Providers have issued the standard advice on enjoying the weather responsibly – and say it cannot be repeated enough:

Try to keep out of the sun between 11am to 3pm;

Wear UV sunglasses, preferably wraparound, to reduce UV exposure to the eyes;

Walk in the shade;

Apply sunscreen of at least SPF15 with UVA protection;

Wear a hat and light scarf;

Wear light, loose-fitting cotton clothes;

Drink lots of cool drinks;

Look out for others especially vulnerable groups such as the older people, young children and babies and those with serious illnesses; and

Never leave anyone in a closed, parked vehicle, especially infants, young children or animals.
