Here's how Creative Coventrians can get their work on display at the Herbert

CREATIVE Coventrians will have the chance to have their work exhibited at the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum next spring at the Coventry Open.

Coventry Open was set up to showcase local talent and provide an opportunity for artists to sell their pieces.

The event attempts to celebrate diverse, quality art within Coventry and the West Midlands with visual artists working in any medium welcome to submit images and information about their work for free through an online submission portal from January 2.

Submissions will close on February 13, with a judging panel then deciding on a winning entry as well as selecting the works that will go on public display.

And the ‘peoples choice’ will win a £500 prize, which will be voted for by the public after the exhibition opens.

For the first time, the Herbert will also be holding a young person’s Coventry Open for up-and-coming artists aged between 15 and 18 to exhibit their work.

Public question and answer sessions will be taking place online and in person in the coming weeks where people can find out more about the project.

Coventry Open curator Alice Swatton said, “After a brief hiatus during our packed City of Culture programme, we’re excited to be bringing Coventry Open back to the Herbert and celebrating the creative talent that the West Midlands has to offer.

“Getting your work in front of viewers is one of the most challenging aspects of being an artist, and it’s important to us at the Herbert to provide a platform for people to raise their profile and develop their careers.

“We encourage local artists and makers to spend some time between now and the new year thinking about what they might want to create and submit for the exhibition.”

The selected works will be exhibited between March 24 and May 21.
