A HISTORY-making Coventry grandmother returned to the city’s University Hospital last week to mark three years since she received the first-ever Covid-19 vaccination outside a clinical trial.
Maggie Keenan made history as the first person in the world to receive the PfizerBioNTech vaccine, administered by matron May Parsons, which gave the first ray of hope to millions that Covid lockdowns might soon come to an end.
To mark the anniversary, Maggie, who turns 94 this week, met with the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire charity as well as city Lord Mayor Coun Jaswant Singh Birdi.
Maggie took a trip down memory lane by paying a visit to the spot where she received her first jab.
She also met up with hospital staff to reminisce about the day they kickstarted the vaccination programme.
The former jewellery shop assistant, who only retired seven years ago, said at the time she was looking forward to being able to go outside and meet people again once the vaccine began being widely rolled out.
Covid lockdown restrictions were lifted for the final time the following year.
