A HIT-and-run driver who left a pensioner, 83, to die at the roadside in Coventry has been jailed for 22 months.

Mohammed Ahmed, 33, hit Milton Forde as he crossed Burnaby Road in Holbrooks, Coventry, just before 11pm on May 12 last year – and sped away following the collision.

People living nearby who heard the sound of the impact found Mr Forde lying injured in the road and called for paramedics but sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two days after the collision, West Midlands Police identified a damaged blue BMW matching the description of the one seen by witnesses which was registered to Ahmed’s address in King Edwards Road, Coventry.

The car was found to have damage consistent with a front-end impact and, after being interviewed, he admitted to causing death by careless driving.

Ahmed appeared at Warwick Crown Court today (Friday, May 17) where he was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment which was reduced to 22 months for his early guilty plea. He was also banned from driving for 47 months.
