COVENTRY ska-punk legends The Specials have announced a homecoming gig at the Ricoh Arena in September 2021.

The band – featuring Terry Hall, Lynval Golding and Horace Panter – will play at the Ricoh’s indoor arena on Saturday September 11 2021, after releasing their new studio album, Encore, for the first time in more than 38 years.

Formed in Coventry in 1977, the trend-starting ska revival band hit the British music scene hard. In the UK their debut single Gangsters shot to number six and every subsequent single was a top 10 hit, including two number ones – Too Much Too Young and the much-loved Ghost Town, which won ‘Single of the Year 1981’ in NME, Melody Maker and Sounds.

Stephen Vaughan, Chief Executive at Ricoh Arena, said: “We are thrilled that The Specials will be performing in their own back yard once again.

“The Specials are a huge part of Coventry’s heritage and one of the most celebrated UK bands of all time, and it is fitting that they will be playing at the Ricoh as Coventry celebrates its year as UK City of Culture.

“We are looking forward to welcoming The Specials, and thousands of fans, to the venue next year.”

The date come amid a 13 stop tour of the UK in August and September 2021.

Tickets for the gig go on sale online at www.ricoharena.com on September 11 2020 at 10am.
