How Coventry can pay its respects to Queen Elizabeth II

Coventry Editorial 9th Sep, 2022   0

A VIRTUAL book of condolence has been launched by Coventry City Council where the city can pay its respects to the late Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away peacefully at Balmoral yesterday at the age of 96.

Messages have been pouring in overnight with over 70 people across Coventry using the virtual book to write personal tributes to the Queen and condolences to the Royal Family.

Books of condolence will also be opened at the Council House and the Cathedral.

The virtual book was announced last night in a joint statement between council leader Coun George Duggins and the Lord Mayor of Coventry, Coun Kevin Maton, during which they said they are ‘deeply saddened’ by the news.

The statement continued: “The Queen was a much-loved monarch, who visited our city many times over her long reign and she will be greatly missed.

“Our thoughts are with the King and the Royal Family at this time.

“As a mark of respect, we will be flying the Union Flag at half-mast until the national mourning period is over and people are invited to lay flowers at the altar end of the Cathedral Ruins.”

Queen Elizabeth II was the longest-reigning monarch in British history and her Platinum Jubilee was marked in the UK and around the World earlier this year.
