OFSTED has released the latest annual school league tables.
Using the government’s ‘Progress 8′ scoring, the data from the education watchdog shows Coventry is below the national average.
But the third best school in the country stands on Stoney Stanton Road – Eden Girls’ School.
Sumeya Bhikhu, Principal of Eden Girls’ School, Coventry, said: “We are absolutely delighted by our place in this year’s league tables which is testimony to the wonderful work going on in our school.
“At Eden Girls’ School, our whole community is dedicated to achieving the very best outcomes for our pupils. We want every pupil to feel that they have done their best when they leave our school.
“We are grateful to all our staff, our parents and the pupils themselves who have all worked with exceptional commitment to deliver these outstanding results.”
According to the Progress 8 data, Eden Girl’s and Barrs Hill School top the rankings in Coventry.
Whitley Academy and Foxford School are the joint worst performing schools in the city, according to the data.
The rankings are based on a Department of Education rethink of schools measurements. The data uses pupils’ results when leaving primary school, predicts their attainable GCSE results, and measures how many pupils achieve those grades.
Critics argued the government’s measure is too simplistic and does not account for schools in deprived areas.
In Warwickshire, four schools were in the top five per cent of schools for England – Alcester academy, Stratford grammar school for girls, King Edward VI in Stratford and Kenilworth School.
