HUNDREDS of Coventrians gathered at the Cathedral to celebrate the life of the Platt-May brothers who tragically died after a hit-and-run collision last month.

Influential figures from Corey and Casper’s childhoods gave emotional speeches and shared happy memories of the boys – including teachers, a football coach and Grandad Kenny May who read a moving poem.

Corey, six, and his two-year-old brother Casper both died after being hit by a car at the junction of MacDonald Road and Longfellow Road, Stoke, on February 22.

The Cathedral prepared a service entitled ‘Casper and Corey: A Service of Love and Memory’.

On its Twitter page before the service, it said: “We are honoured to be providing a space for the family and friends this afternoon.”

The service ended with family, friends and over a hundred supportive Coventry residents raising a candles in memory of the boys.

Before it began, a battalion of bikers gathered outside the Cathedral in a display of solidarity for the family.

In anticipation of the memorial service, family member Chelsea Platt-May said: “Today is the day we say goodbye to two beautiful boys for the last time, it might be goodbye but I hope I will see them again soon. Corey and Casper will always be in our hearts.”

The family released a statement about the memorial service which said: “Thank you all for the love and support.”

A JustGiving page raised over £26,000 for funeral costs with over 1,500 people donating to the fund.

Last week a fundraiser for the boys saw around 500 people at Willenhall Club continue to give donations.

The funeral is yet to take place.

Condolences were sent to the grieving family last week from Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, along with a signed shirt from star striker Marcus Rashford.

While Coventry City wore black armbands as a mark of respect for the football-loving boys’ passing last month.
