HUNDREDS of people turned out to Coventry’s annual St George’s Day celebration on Sunday, April 23.
The crowds enjoyed the fire-breathing dragon Puffalot, staged fights and a mummers play where St George took on the Black Knight – all performed by Black Knight Historical.
Other activities included balloon modelling, where children could make dragons, swords and shields, and a traditional dancing performance from the Coventry Morris Men.
Rowena Buckley, who brought her family to the event, said: “I think it’s fantastic – and it’s lovely for the children.
“I heard about the event through the school so thought we would come down.”
Ed Boreham from the Black Knight Historical Society was tasked with playing St George.
He said: “This is our first time at this particular event in Coventry.
“It’s good to see so many people have come out for the event.
“We go all over the country, organising events, doing talks and visiting schools.”
Children were also invited to bring along their toy dragons to secure their place in the ‘Dragon Protection League’, receiving a certificate for doing so.
