BROADGATE was awash with red, white and blue over the weekend as Coventrians celebrated the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
Shoppers and royalists braved the rain on Saturday to witness the pomp and pageantry of the historic occasion on a specially installed big screen, with picnic benches and deckchairs placed in the city centre.
Those who gathered wearing crowns and raincoats were also able to enjoy performances from street entertainers throughout the day.
The royal celebrations continued into Sunday, with Broadgate hosting a party fit for a King at its Big Picnic.
Families and friends headed into the city centre with their tasty treats to toast the King while enjoying the city’s big street party in the sunshine.
A bandstand was installed to add to the royal fun, with guests enjoying the glorious sounds of the Festival Band and the Incredible Bombay Baja Brass Band among others.
There was also plenty for youngsters to enjoy including ‘have a go’ crafts and regal-themed street entertainers.
And to honour the King’s passion for protecting the environment, there were also plenty of eco-friendly activities.
Royal celebrations took place across Coventry over the weekend with several city roads closed for street parties.
St Mary’s Guildhall celebrated the coronation by offering free entry to every Coventrian called Charles or Camilla, while Coombe Abbey Park also hosted a garden party on Sunday, featuring music, team games, street food and plenty of stalls.
