TENS of thousands of people headed to war memorial park for a celebration of Coventry’s culture and magnificent music at the Godiva festival.

Over 70,000 tickets were sold for the event, an increase from last year’s festival.

Among the highlights of Friday night was a headline performance from The Enemy, who appeared at the festival for the first time in 16 years.

The weekend saw performances from a host of stars including Rudimental, Ella Eyre, Diversity, Trevor Nelson, The Selecter and Celina Sharma and Melanie C.

Guests also enjoyed plenty of fun-filled activities and events in the Coventry College Family Field, including roaming dinosaurs, birds of prey and performances from the likes of Johnny and the Raindrops.

The Ancient Futures Stage and Powerhouse Youth Zone saw a mix of singers, rappers, poets, spoken word artists, DJs and dancers performing.

And for the first time, the festival welcomed Imagineer’s Giant Godiva puppet.

The council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for events, Coun Abdul Salam Khan, said: “The Godiva Festival continues to grow and is a fantastic celebration of everything that makes our city so special.

“I was delighted to see so many people and families enjoying themselves over the weekend.”
