Increased Police presence in Coventry this bank holiday

Coventry Editorial 26th Aug, 2022 Updated: 26th Aug, 2022   0

THERE will be an increased Police presence in Coventry this bank holiday following last weekends disorder.

Disorder broke out in parts of Longford last weekend, with fireworks and missiles thrown in the air and putting officers and the public in danger.

Officers will be patrolling in Henley and Longford in particular throughout the weekend and speaking with residents.

Investigations into the disorder are still ongoing with a review of CCTV, body cam and mobile phone footage underway.

Eight people have been arrested in connection with the disorder, with seven released on bail with strict conditions that are actively being monitored.

A 30-year-old man was charged with driving offences and remanded to appear at court yesterday.

Video footage and photos of three people police want to identify have been released, with officers believing them to be connected to the disorder.

Inspector Hanif Ullah from Coventry Police, said: “I want to reassure residents, businesses and the wider community that we are doing everything we can to protect them and make their area a safe place to live and work.

“The behaviour demonstrated last weekend is simply unacceptable on our streets and we will not tolerate it.

“There will be an increased police presence this weekend to offer reassurance to the community and to ensure that everyone enjoys the bank holiday weekend.

“I would appeal to anyone who has any information to get in touch or if you see us, talk to us. We don’t need to know who you are, just what you know.”

Anyone with information should get in touch via Live Chat quoting log 1705 of 18 August or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
