A BBC programme being aired tonight will give viewers a ‘behind the scenes’ look at Coventry’s world-famous Doritos factory – the biggest tortilla chip-making plant in Europe.
Fronted by presenters Gregg Wallace and Cherry Healey, Inside the Factory explores the art of making the iconic Doritos Chilli Heatwave, following the production process from Spanish cornfields all the way to shop shelves across the UK.
During the programme, Gregg is shown the meticulous stages that go into creating high-quality chips, including soaking, cooking and milling corn using methods dating back thousands of years.
After learning about the impressive engineering behind Doritos’ perfect triangle shape and the seasoning process that gives them their bold, expressive flavours, Gregg gets an insight into the packaging and logistics operation as the crisps prepare to depart Coventry.
Coventry site director Chris Rees said: “Many people won’t know about the ingenious technology and engineering that goes into making our great-tasting Doritos.
“We’re the only UK manufacturer that does the whole process on-site, which is made possible by our 500-strong team at Coventry who work around the clock to get the world’s favourite tortilla chips to fans across Britain.
“We can’t wait to give our fans a behind-the-scenes peak at what we do best.”
Inside the Factory airs at 9pm on BBC Two.
