Investigation underway following sexual assault in Walsgrave

Coventry Editorial 7th Jul, 2017   0

A POLICE investigation is underway after a woman who was walking her dog in Walsgrave was sexually assaulted.

The incident happened at around 11am on Wednesday, July 5, morning in parkland of Bridport Close.

The woman was approached by a man on a bike who sexually assaulted her.

Detective Inspector Wes Martin – from the force’s public protection unit – said: “This was a nasty attack in broad daylight.

“We are following multiple enquiries, including trawling through CCTV within the local area and nearby hospital.

“I’d urge anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have seen the man or witnessed the incident to get in touch as soon as possible.”

It follows a similar sexual assault that took place in Hinckley Road, Walsgrave, on Tuesday, June 13.

DI Martin added: “We are investigating the possibility that these two incidents are linked.

“There are similarities between the offender descriptions on both occasions.

“I’m therefore keen to advise the public to be vigilant, take extra care when walking in the local area and report any concerns that they may have.”

The offender from Wednesday’s incident is described as white and in his late 20s.

He has short dark hair and was wearing a dark blue t-shirt, dark coloured shorts and was riding a black push bike.

Anyone with information or who saw any suspicious behaviour should contact police on 02476 539 108 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
