A QUICK-THINKING off-duty police officer helped recover a stolen mobile phone and returned it to its rightful owner.
The PCSO found a distressed woman who had just had her iPhone 11 snatched in Fairfax Street, Coventry city centre, around 7pm yesterday.
He quickly obtained some details from the victim and chased after a suspect, while also calling the contact centre to report the crime.
Officers promptly arrived and the off-duty PCSO was able to point them in the direction of the suspected robber off Priory Street.
A 16-year-old boy was detained and the mobile phone was recovered nearby.
He was taken into custody and since been bailed pending further enquiries.
The phone was returned to the victim, who was aged in her 20s, shaken up by the incident but not injured.
A Coventry Police spokesperson said: “Our PCSO wants to remain modest but we’re proud of his commitment to helping others in their time of need – even when off duty.”
