JAGUAR Land Rover has announced all new vehicles launched from 2020 will be electrified.
The announcement, which means all new vehicles developed by JLR will be electric or hybrids, was made at JLR’s inaugural Tech Fest – a free public exhibition about the future of mobility.
Regular petrol and diesel vehicles will continue to be rolled out.
But with the government’s ban on petrol and diesel cars by 2040, the move signals an adaptation by JLR – owned by Tata Motors – to the future of the automotive industry.
It is hoped by 2050, all petrol and diesel vehicles will be off the roads for good.
Dr Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover chief executive officer, said: “Every new Jaguar Land Rover model line will be electrified from 2020.
“We will introduce a portfolio of electrified products across our model range, embracing fully electric, plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid vehicles.”
Jaguar Land Rover will next year release its first fully electric vehicle, the I-PACE.
A Jaguar Land Rover spokesperson said: “With the I-Pace, we started with a clean sheet and engineered a bespoke, tailored, pure electric SUV from the ground up.”
