COVENTRY Observer journalist Les Reid has been shortlisted in two categories at the prestigious UK-wide Regional Press Awards.
Les was shortlisted by judges for Weekly Reporter of the Year and Sports Reporter of the Year. A ceremony takes place in London on Friday (May 20).
A multi-award winning journalist, Les was nominated for work including his scrutiny of Coventry City Council over the Ricoh Arena dispute and its sale to rugby club Wasps; investigations surrounding the late council deputy leader Phil Townshend; and his exclusive work on Geoffrey Robinson MP’s would-be ‘resignation’, on which he also grilled then Labour Party leader Ed Miliband.
Les said: “These two shortlistings at the industry showcase Regional Press Awards are testimony to the support for scrutinising journalism, which holds public bodies to account, by the Coventry Observer, its editor Chris Wilmott and talented team, and Bullivant Media.”
He was also ‘Highly Commended’ in two categories at last year’s Midlands Media Awards for work for the Coventry Observer.
