SOLIHULL was paid a royal visit today when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were given a look behind the scenes at Jaguar Land Rover.
Kate and William, who travelled up to the borough from their Kensington Palace home, began their tour of the region at the Lode Lane plant.
Observer chief photographer Jon Mullis was on hand when the couple arrived and greeted by local dignatories including The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Stuart Davis, operations director at Solihull JLR Nigel Belnkinstop and the Lord Lieutenant of the West Midlands John Crabtree.
The couple, who are expecting their third child in April, were given an overview of the Solihull site before heading to the vehicle assembly area to hear about the manufacturing process and met staff and apprentices.
They then visited the JLR Experience Centre where they met Mountain Rescue volunteers participating in a vehicle exercise.
Afterwards, they will meet some of JLR’s volunteers, who support projects focusing on regeneration, education, young people, charity work and the environment.
The couple met schoolchildren from Topcliffe Primary School in Castle Vale – winners of the Jaguar Primary School Challenge – and saw their wining model car race on a track.
