WEST Midlands Fire Service has issued a warning to keep flammable items away from heaters after an investigation into the cause of a fatal flat fire in Coventry.

Emergency services responded to the incident in Almond Tree Avenue, Bell Green, Coventry, on Sunday (January 10) just before 3pm.

A man, believed to be in his 60s, who was inside the property, was confirmed dead at the scene.

A statement from West Midlands Fire Service said: “Regretfully, the incident attended by crews in which a male occupier sadly lost his life, has been confirmed to have been caused by a convection heater being too close to combustible materials. PLEASE, keep flammable items away from heaters.”
