A KNITTING hobby has helped raise much needed funding to help care for the babies and families at Zoe’s Place.

Barbara Rose from Rugby began hand knitting favourite characters from well-known nursery rhymes early this year to help raise funds for the baby hospice in Ash Green.

The grandmother of two has produced popular characters such as Old Mother Hubbard, Humpty Dumpty, Little Bo Peep, Jack and Jill, Little Miss Muffet and many more.

The 75-year-old has created a total of 15 nursery rhyme characters and a silent auction for the knittings at Rugby United Reformed Church, which included a coffee and cake sale, raised £650.

“I never thought in my wildest dreams that my past-time would raise so much money,” said Barbara.

“People were outbidding each other so they could get their hands on them and show their support for Zoe’s Place.

“Zoe’s Place is such a wonderful place and a home from home environment for the families. I am so very happy that I could do my little bit to help.”

Zoe’s Place is the only baby specific facility of its kind in the Midlands and provides 24-hour care on a one-to-one basis.

The hospice specialises in palliative, respite and end-of-life care to children aged 0-5 years, who have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. The hospice offers high-quality short-term regular care, to provide families with holistic support.

Jane McGaffney, community fundraiser for Zoe’s Place, added: “We are always grateful for the kindness and lovely gestures such as this and all those who give up their time to help such a wonderful hospice as we have here.

“Barbara visited the hospice and was delighted to see how the funds will help with our charitable aims.

“The hours and hours of work that went into making such wonderful toys is staggering and the amount raised will certainly make a difference to us.
