CHILDREN from Stivichall Primary School in Coventry had history brought to life when the city’s Lady Godiva, aka Pru Porretta, visited.
The lesson about the famous horse ride through the streets of Coventry formed part of year 2’s ‘Street Detectives’ topic which saw them studying the local area and its history.
Pru was in full costume and Mr Hartopp was persuaded to dress alongside her as the Earl of Mercia, Lady Godiva’s husband.
Afterwards, a number of children were invited to dress in costume to help re-enact the story.
Year 2 teacher Mrs Dixon said: “The afternoon was thoroughly enjoyed by all of the children and it was great to see history being brought to life in our school hall.”
Pru said: “It was great to be able to teach the story to a new generation of Coventrians and the children really enjoyed it.
“There was great feedback from the school which said the children had really taken in the lesson and could re-tell the story themselves from what they had learnt.”
