COVENTRY’S Assembly Festival Garden will close at the end of August – but there is still plenty to see and take part in for the whole family throughout the month.
From August 13 until 29, Havana Rumba will parade into the Assembly Festival Garden, telling the story of the music of Cuba from thrilling rhythms of African ancestors to infectious funk music played on the streets today.
The summer programme ends with the bank-holiday weekend, including Brainiac Live! – two immersive children’s shows – Brainiac Detective Academy and Brainiac Astronaut Academy.
In addition to headline shows, University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) Charity will hold a summer celebration in the Assembly Festival Garden on 20 August.
Since the Garden reopened in April over 60,000 people have visited to experience live events and enjoy the fantastic food and drink offer.
Martin Sutherland OBE, chief executive of the Coventry City of Culture Trust, said: “It’s been wonderful to see Assembly Festival Garden proving so popular once again as a destination to see brilliant shows but also where the people of Coventry, Warwickshire and further afield have decided to spend time with friends, family and colleagues.
“Handing over the baton to Bradford in May means that Coventry no longer holds the title of UK City of Culture, but hosting Assembly Festival Garden again has been a great way to continue an exciting programme of events into the Summer.”
Professor John Latham CBE, Vice-Chancellor of Coventry University, said: “We are thrilled to see such an exciting programme of events taking place at Assembly Festival Garden this summer. It’s been a huge honour to have provided our venue for the community to enjoy and we’re pleased that the space is being used to such positive effect in Coventry.”
