MORE Coventry schools are today reporting A-level success.

Grace Academy says all it students who applied to university are to get on the courses they applied for, after positive A-level results which were ‘one grade up from last year’ with the best results coming in Art, Photography and Psychology.

All BTEC students achieved a pass or above. The school highlighted Health & Social Care results of 87% of students achieving Distinction* grades and the rest achieving Distinctions. All students also achieved Distinction grades in Performing Arts.

It follows the appointment of executive principal, Darren Gelder, in September last year.

Mitch Chadwick, Head of Post-16, said: “I am very pleased that we have seen a large improvement in results this year, particularly in A Level subjects.

“We will continue to build on this success moving forward, continuing our push on teaching and learning and also offering a different, more improved curriculum pathway for students next year to prepare them for their next steps in work, apprenticeships, or university and further education.”

Students celebrating their success include Oliver Poole who achieved ABB grades in Psychology, Maths and Business Studies.

He said: “I’m really happy with my results as they reflect the hard work me and my teachers put in over the last two years.

“I’m looking forward to starting my accountancy apprenticeship at Deloitte in September.”

King Henry VIII School reported ‘a superb year of examination success at A-level’.

A third of all results were awarded the top grades of A* or A. Almost two thirds of all results were graded A*, A, or B.

The school adds one in five students achieved three or more A and A* grades.

Among high achievers were head boy, Yuhang Xie (who will now attend Cambridge University to study Natural Sciences), and head girl, Charlotte Cleasby (who now goes to Imperial College to study Medicine).

Jason Slack, headmaster, said: “We are equally as proud of other students who have exceeded all expectations in gaining excellent grades that will now see them progress to the university course of their choice.

“This academic success has been gained against the background of many other achievements from an extremely talented year group that boasts diverse achievements such as an international rugby player and a ball room dancing champion among their number.”
