EIGHT local community heroes have been honoured at this years BBC Radio CWR make a Difference awards in a ceremony at The Slate at the University of Warwick.
For the third year BBC Local has received a record of entries and nominations for the award which celebrates people for the things they do in the community.
Winners were presented with awards at a Make a Difference Awards ceremony hosted by Vic Minett and Phil Upton on September 8.
Godfrey Mubiru was awarded the volunteer award – Godfrey is a long term volunteer for Carries of Hope in Coventry, an organisation that provides practical support to asylum seekers and refugees.
Sherril Donaldson received the community Award – Sherril has been working in the community for the last three decades, providing inter-generational opportunities for the Black community in Coventry.
The Coventry and Warwickshire Charity Christmas Tree Collection won the fundraiser award – the collection raised almost £150,000 for Myton Hospices and Pass the Smile.
Max won the carer award – Max is a carer for his younger brother Kit who has down syndrome and is passionate about making sure his brother is included in everything he does.
Steve Blundred received the great neighbour award – Steve stopped to help a couple in when their house was flooding back in January this year.
George was awarded the bravery award – George has WPW, a heart condition which means his heart sometimes beats out of time.
Cov Cloth won the the green award – Cov Cloth upcycle waste textiles for community projects.
Ruby Welsford wont the animal award – Ruby runs Infinity Dogs CIC and teaches people to train their own assistance dogs.
Sophie Cook, Editor at BBC CWR, said: “Coventry and Warwickshire has some incredible people who make up the community, and this year’s winners showcase those unsung heroes that go above and beyond.
“The awards are a special moment in the BBC CWR calendar, and a real highlight of the year and I don’t envy the judges who have had an incredibly difficult job picking the winners.
“Massive congratulations to all the winners, and finalists.”
Chris Burns, controller local audio commissioning added: “The Make a Difference Awards celebrate the good things that happen with our communities and it’s great to see that every year we see more and more nominations.
“The award ceremonies for me are a humbling experience and I feel privileged that we get to shine a light on these stories and give our listeners a chance to celebrate the unsung heroes where they live.

In Coventry and Warwickshire this year’s judges were Alex Horne, Declan Bennett, David Bradley, Karenjeet Kaur Bains, John Bernard, Charlotte Chilton, Bishop Ruth Worsley and Hacker T Dog.
