HORRIFIC footage shows an elderly man trying to escape the speeding car which left him fighting for his life after a hit-and-run in Coventry.

The 64-year-old Willenhall man remains critical in hospital today.

The man was crossing the road in St James Lane, Willenhall, at around 7.20pm on Monday when he was struck by a white Audi.

Police released the CCTV of the vehicle approaching the scene in a bid to trace it.

Investigators are appealing for the public’s help in identifying the car and the driver.

Parts left at the scene indicate it is an Audi A3 or S3 manufactured in 2012/13.

Sergeant Alan Wood of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “I would appeal to the driver of this vehicle to think about the consequences of their actions and identify yourself to us.

“The impact has left a man critically injured but you now have an opportunity to at least start to put this right by handing yourself in and doing the decent thing.

“We have released CCTV to get help from the community of Coventry – does anyone who was in the area on the night of the collision or have any dash-cam footage of a white Audi that may give us a registration number of this vehicle?”

Anyone with information should contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit by email at [email protected], call 101 or Live Chat via WMP Online between 8am and midnight. Please quote 2251 from 8 Oct.
