CHRISTMAS and new year is not just a time to reflect on the year gone by, but it is also a time for us to look forward to what the future may bring.
Given the torrid year we have all just had, I hope readers forgive me if I focus on the opportunities in store for us in 2021 rather than dwelling on the past.
2021 promises to be a year of renewal for the UK and for the city.
Not only will the roll-out of the Covid vaccine continue to accelerate, which by the spring should allow us to see our nearest and dearest again, but as the economy picks up, more jobs and opportunities should also become available, giving households their financial security as well as their freedom back.
As I write this column it is unclear whether the UK will be able to agree a deal with the EU or not.
I sincerely hope it does, but whatever happens it is important we all look with optimism about what life outside the EU will be like and make the most of the opportunities that leaving presents us with.
We need to put past divisions behind us and go forward together as one United Kingdom. Bring on 2021.
