AN 83-year-old man has died after he was knocked down by a car in Coventry.

He was crossing the Foleshill Road in Coventry at around 10.10pm last night (Thursday December 21).

The man, who had just left the Parkstone Working Men’s Club, was crossing the road with a friend, when he was hit by the car which failed to stop.

A 27-year-old man from Coventry has been arrested this morning on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

His car has been seized and he is now assisting police with their enquiries.

Sergeant Alan Wood, from the West Midlands Police Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who lost his life when he had just been enjoying a pleasant evening with his friends.

“We understand what a shock this must have been for them.

“We are trying to establish exactly what took place and are keen to hear from anyone in the area at the time who may have seen what happened.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the collision investigation unit on 101 or e-mail [email protected]
