A MAN was arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage after an incident in Nuneaton.

Police were called to an address in Tudor Road in the early hours of Friday morning.

A woman was taken to hospital with a head injury and a man was found to have locked the front door of the property and refused police officers entry. He claimed to have damaged the gas pipes inside the property.

As a result, the nearby houses were evacuated until gas engineers could attend the site and determine whether any damage had been caused. Police negotiators were also called.

Police eventually gained access to the property and attending gas engineers discovered that no damage had been caused to the pipes. Residents were let back into their homes at 6am.

Nearby residents were then able to move back into their homes.

Following this, a 36-year-old man from Nuneaton was arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage.

Investigations are ongoing.
