Man given home by Coventry charity asks for furniture donations to help others

Coventry Editorial 19th Sep, 2022   0

A MAN who was given a home by Emmaus Coventry and Warwickshire has asked for used furniture donations to help the charity.

Dean, 46, joined the charity after alcoholism led to years of him sleeping rough, but is now rebuilding his life and developing skills.

And now Dean is asking people to donate unwanted furniture so the charity can help more vulnerable people.

Dean was offered a place at Emmaus back in 2020 after leaving rehab.

He said: “I wanted to go somewhere for a fresh start and needed a place to live.

“Everyone was really welcoming and I felt accepted immediately.

“It’s nice to be part of the team here.

“It feels so good knowing I’ve got a home for as long as I need it.”

Emmaus provides accommodation, support and the chance of meaningful work to homeless people.

Each year they save around 6,700 pieces of furniture worth more than £120,000 from the rubbish tip, including wardrobes, beds and three-piece suites.

They offer a free collection service for large items in good condition before they are sold in their specialist second-hand furniture shop on Red Lane to fund the charity’s work.

Visit www.emmaus.org.uk/coventry-warwickshire/donate-goods or call 024 7666 1466 to book a free collection of unwanted furniture.
