A HIT-AND-RUN collision in Coventry has left a man in a critical condition.

The 51-year-old was hit by a stolen car on London Road yesterday evening (March 17).

Police have launched an investigation to find the driver of the Vauxhall Corsa.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “We are appealing for information after a pedestrian was hit by a car in Coventry yesterday evening (Tuesday 17 March).

“Officers were called to London Road just before 6pm, where a 51-year-old man had been hit by a stolen Vauxhall Corsa car as he crossed the road.

“He was taken to hospital with injuries to his head, chest and leg and remains there today (Wednesday) in a critical condition.

Sergeant Alan Hands, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “I am asking anyone with information on this collision to come forward and speak to us.

“Did you notice the driver of a silver Vauxhall Corsa with the number plate DT17 ENE acting suspiciously in the area, or you saw the events before, during or after the collision?

“Do you have dashcam footage that could help us?”

The car, which was stolen in February, was found burnt out in a nearby road soon after the collision and has now been taken for forensic testing.

Police say their enquiries continue and anyone with information is asked to contact us via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight, or call 101 anytime, adding “Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111. Please quote log 2663 of 17 March.”
