Man jailed for domestic abuse campaign against ex-partner in Coventry

A DOMESTIC abuser who strangled, punched and attempted to drown his ex-partner in Coventry has been jailed for five years.

Peter Devoisey was jailed at Warwick Crown Court for the campaign of domestic abuse against the woman at an address in the city between April and June 2022.

In the first assault, the 35-year-old covered the victim’s mouth and strangled her before punching her in the face, leaving her with a black eye.

Devoisey refused to let the woman seek medical attention after the second assault, which saw him punch her multiple times, causing significant bruising.

During the third assault, Devoisey grabbed the woman while she was in the bath, pushing her underwater and attempting to drown her.

She attempted to run away after managing to get out of the bath, but he dragged her back in before continuing to kick her in the face and strangling her.

Devoisey had an indefinite restraining order stopping him from contacting the victim or attending his ex-partner’s address following a previous conviction for battery against her in 2021.

However, during his custodial sentence and after his release he continued to control and intimidate her, moving back into their address and breaching his restraining order.
